WoW: Discord in-game overlay causes WoW client to crash
Due to various additional features, Discord is gradually displacing voice chats like Teamspeak and the like and is now also used by many WoW players. One feature of Discord is the in-game overlay, thanks to which you can see who is talking in the voice chat even within the game. However, this feature has apparently caused various crashes of the WoW client, as has now become apparent.
Originally, many players suspected that a recent Windows update was to blame for the inexplicable crashes, as various forum discussions gradually revealed that all affected users were on the same update level: KB4598291. Meanwhile, it has become clear that this is only partially correct. According to Microsoft, there are incompatibilities between Windows, the Discord client and games that access certain Direct3D 12 functions while the in-game overlay is active.
WoW: Discord in-game overlay causes WoW client to crash (1) Source: DiscordThe recommended solution is to disable Discord's in-game overlay and to update the Discord client. You can do the latter by right-clicking on the Discord icon in the Windows notification area (bottom right by default). According to Microsoft, the problem should no longer occur in the latest version. An update of Windows is not necessary, since it has no effect on this problem anyway.
Do you use the in-game overlay of Discord and had to fight with crashes, or did this problem luckily pass you by?
