WoW: Official preview of the Sanctum of Domination - the raid in patch 9.1

As already expected, the upcoming raid, the Sanctum of Domination, will not start directly with the patch, but only a short time later. The gates of the new raid open together with the start of the second season of WoW Shadowlands. We expect a total of ten bosses on four different difficulty levels. In the final battle, we finally get to take on Sylvanas and make her pay for her crimes. How the story ends, whether we finally kill Sylvanas or she finally gets her Redemption story, we will probably only find out in the fight against the Banshee.

Here's Blizzard's full, official preview of the Sanctum of Domination:

For eons, the Dungeon Master was trapped in the Maw. Now his endless armies gather as he prepares for the final phase of his grand plan. In the face of extinction, Bolvar rallies his last remaining allies to advance into the heart of Torghast and confront the Dungeon Master where he is most powerful.

The Tarragrue, the dungeon master's relentless beast, has roamed the halls of Torghast since the first spire was built. The souls of countless victims have been trampled to ash by this monster, who now awaits the mortal champions who breach the tower's threshold. The Tarragrue Source: Blizzard

When Azeroth was young, Odyn traded his Eye to Mueh'zala to see into the Shadowlands. But the vain Odyn was deceived, for the dungeon master corrupted Odyn's Eye to his own ends. Through the Eye's unwavering gaze, the jailer is able to see everything that happens in his realm...and possibly others as well. The eye of the jailer Source: Blizzard

The dark pact Sylvanas made with the Val'kyr sealed their bond to the dungeon master. Over the years, the winged sisters have served the Dark Lady faithfully, even if it meant sacrificing themselves for her. Now, Sylvanas calls upon her nine Val'kyr to fight for her one last time. Ner'zhul, the first Lich King, was supposed to proclaim the dungeon master's rule on Azeroth, but his master ultimately found him unworthy. The last remnants of this fallen orc's disfigured soul were encased in spiked shadow steel to punish him with eternal torment for his failure. Anyone who crosses his path will share in his suffering. Soul Shredder Dormazain extracts anima from Torghast's most bestial prisoners to feed the jailer's armies. The tormentor has yet to encounter a soul he could not break, but his latest victim proves extremely resistant to his usual methods. Fueled by this prisoner's endless rage, Dormazain looks forward with relish to the millennia to come as he finds his weaknesses. Soul shredder Dormazain Source: Blizzard

Sufferingsmith Raznal is a sadistic genius who has spent eons perfecting the deadly traps found in Torghast. He takes the screams of his victims as confirmation of his skill, and so he listens with pleasurable rapture as they resound through the desolate halls of the tower. Captured from an unknown realm by the chains of the Dungeon Master, the malfunctioning Guardian seeks to protect the unfathomable knowledge known as the Ciphers. With his last reserves of power, he will obliterate anyone who dares attempt to steal the secrets of their enigmatic creators. Guardian of the First Source: Blizzard

Once a scribe of destiny, familiar with the myriad secrets of Korthia, Ro-Kalo has been bent to the will of the dungeon master by the Mawbound. With the power of Torghast at his disposal, Ro-Kalo strives to write a new destiny for the Shadowlands. Fate writer Roh-Kalo Source: Blizzard

The nefarious Kel'Thuzad waits at the head of the Soul Stream, where the lich can draw power from an inexhaustible well. His myriad schemes and machinations have led to this final confrontation, in which he plans to bring about the final downfall of the mortal champions in the service of his true master. Oribos is in danger, and so begins a desperate battle at the head of the Sanctum. Standing between the dungeon master and the mortals who seek to stop him is Sylvanas Windrunner. All of the Banshee Queen's masks have fallen, and so she unleashes her full power to protect the exiled as his ultimate plan unfolds. Sylvanas Storm Petrel Source: Blizzard

Shard of Domination

The Spitters of Domination. Source: Blizzard

Fortify your equipment with Shards of Domination - new, powerful gems that you can loot from the bosses that lurk in the Sanctum of Domination. These remnants of the Rune Shredder's creations have long bolstered the Dungeon Master's arsenal. But now it's up to you to use them for yourself and turn the exiled's weapons against him. Shards are filled with three different types of runic magic: Blood, Frost, and Unholy. These shuddering gems can be used in equipment with domination sockets and boost your character's damage, damage mitigation, or healing abilities. While the power of each shard works all the time and everywhere, inserting three shards of the same type into your gear creates a runeword that grants you a powerful bonus to your combat power in the Maw, Torghast, and Sanctum of Domination. Each class can capture five different pieces of armor in the raid, into which Shards of Domination can be inserted. Defeating raid bosses will also grant you Stygian Embers, which you can use to upgrade your Shards and further enhance their powerful bonuses.

To do so, seek out Bonesmith Heirmir in Korthia after completing the storyline of Chapter 3: Focusing the Eye in the Chains of Domination campaign.

If you complete the following achievements, you can expect a gruesome mount and a glorious title.

  • Ruling Raid Glory: Complete the raid achievements listed here in the Sanctum of Domination - "An unbeatable duo"; "An eye for picture composition"; "Wise as a whistle"; "He who does the damage doesn't have to worry about the mockery"; "I've picked off rows and rows of underground rats back home"; "Hit the soul"; "Knowledge is power"; "Flawless destiny"; "Together forever"; "This world is a prism".
    • Mount Reward: Hand of Hrestimorak
  • Mythic: Sylvanas Windrunner: Defeat Sylvanas Windrunner in the Sanctum of Domination on Mythic difficulty.
    • Bonus title: Chainbreaker

If you manage to defeat Sylvanas Windrunner before the next raid level on Heroic or Mythic difficulty, you will receive these achievements to brag about.

  • Frontrunner: S ylvanas Windrunner - Defeat Sylvanas Windrunner in the Sanctum of Domination on Mythic difficulty before the next raid level is released.
