WoW Patch 9.1.5: The end for offensive gestures! New emotes coming

The new build for the PTR of WoW patch 9.1.5 is here and makes it clear: Blizzard declares war on trolls in World of Warcraft. At least we should no longer be able to specifically annoy other players with unfriendly, negatively connoted emotes. For this, they are implementing several changes with the upcoming update:

  • Step 1: The following emotes will be modified so that you can no longer use them when targeting a player: /slobber, /cough, /burp, /fart, /whistle, /spit, /butt
  • Step 2: The following emotes will be changed when you target other players: /jump, /groan
  • Step 3: The following emotes will be removed: /kick, /stink, /groan, /wobble#
  • Step 4: Add new emotes that spread positive vibes: /huzzah, /magnificent, /impressed and /wince (the German emote commands are not yet known)

Here are the corresponding patch notes for these changes:

User Interface and Accessibility

  • Several emotes have been adjusted:
    • Drool, cough, burp, fart, whistle, spit, and moon no longer change when used while targeting a player.
    • Pounce and groan have been adjusted when used while targeting a player.
    • 4 new emotes have been added - Huzzah, magnificent, impressed, and wince.
    • Kick, stink, shake, and moan have been removed.
      • Developers' note: Some of these emotes seem to have harmless intentions at a glance, but when used while targeting another player, their intentions can turn unexpectedly suggestive or intrusive. We've made adjustments to these emotes with negative connotations towards another player, while also adding a few new ones.
