WoW: There is already a (still?!) hidden WoW token for TBC Classic

For some WoW fans, all the paid offers for Burning Crusade Classic introduced with the pre-patch(the Clone Service, the Dark Portal Pass, and the Deluxe Edition) are a sure sign that Blizzard will sooner or later introduce an in-game shop and the WoW Token for the classic servers in the US and EU regions.

This fear is now strengthened thanks to a find in the Battle.net shop. MrGM discovered a hidden and deactivated WoW Token there, which matches the style of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic.

Some players concede that these could just be unused placeholders that were auto-generated because a WoW token has been available for the Chinese version of WoW (buy now €14.99 ) Classic (and thus TBC Classic) for quite some time.

Shortly after the post on Icy Veins, Asmongold also gave his two cents: In his opinion, Blizzard should never release the WoW Token for WoW Classic and TBC Classic. It would have a noticeable negative impact on the player experience, introduce a Pay2Win component, and at the same time would just be a band-aid for the Goldseller problem.

What is Blizzard's stance on WoW tokens and in-game shop in Classic WoW?

In our recent interview with Blizzard, we spoke with Lead Producer Holly Longdale and Production Director Patrick Dawson about this very topic (and others like bots, layering, era servers, and bugs). Here is Patrick's answer:

buffed: After the introduction of the paid mount, clone service and character boost, players keep expressing the fear that the WoW token and a real ingame shop will surely come soon for the Classic servers. How much monetization can the Classic experience handle and where do you yourselves see the line that you definitely don't want to cross?

Patrick Dawson: We created things like the Boost and the Dark Portal Pass to make it easier for returnees and newcomers to get into TBC Classic. We want them to be able to join their friends in the Outland. We didn't have any ulterior motives in terms of an in-game shop, we just wanted to make sure that players had an option to go directly to the TBC content and experience the memorable moment of going through the Dark Portal with others. The Deluxe Edition is again a nice way for us and the fans to celebrate this cool milestone in WoW history in-game.

What do you think: Will the WoW token for WoW Classic and TBC Classic come at some point? Do you think Blizzard should even offer this service? Or would that be a reason for you to stay away from the game? Tell us in the comments!
